Josefina Vazquez Mota of the National Action Party (PAN) has appealed to women voters to ensure their husbands vote on July 1 in Mexico’s upcoming presidential election. How? She urged women on her Twitter account to withhold “cuchi cuchi” for a month if their husbands don’t vote.
Later, she even took things up a notch. “Today a man wrote to me and said: Josefina, why the negative? What’s the prize? Why not a month without hanky panky for those who don’t come out to vote, and double rations for those who do?”
Vazquez Mota responded at a rally in Atlixco, Puebla, “If the woman wants to, that depends on each individual. But the thing here is we all take part (in the election).”
Most polls have Vazquez Mota running more than 10 points behind the front-runner, but this was before her new “get out the vote” strategy. Given the stakes, turn out could be heavier than expected.
