Deangelo Mitchell and his younger brother Wayne were arrested after police found three small bags of cocaine underneath the rear seat of their car. The two were placed in the back seat of a police cruiser to be transported to jail. As police continued their investigation, the brothers began whispering about the drugs.
Unknown to police, Deangelo was carrying a fourth bag of cocaine in his butt crack. Since he had a lengthy criminal record, the older Mitchell was concerned that he could face life in prison if convicted on a narcotics charge. “I can’t get no more strikes,” he is heard telling his brother on the in-car video camera. It’s not clear why Deangelo believed that the “butt bag” was going to get him into more trouble than he was in already.
The video footage shows Deangelo Mitchell encouraging his younger brother to eat the cocaine to destroy the evidence – which, unfortunately, the younger brother did. Wayne Mitchell can be seen in the video reaching back to retrieve the bag from his brother, dropping his head, and eating the cocaine. Soon after he began convulsing and bleeding from his mouth. Wayne Mitchell died within an hour of ingesting the drugs.
Deangelo Mitchell was initially charged with narcotics trafficking and was released from custody after posting $50,000 bond. After reviewing the police footage, authorities rearrested him and charged him with involuntary manslaughter in connection with his brother’s death.
